Back in the summer, JS and I went for a run in the Bowers Springs Conservation Area. This is an incredible property that shares a border with Vaughn Hills as well, so you can make a great loop utilizing both properties. A great map of the area can be found HERE.

We started at the Bowers Spring parking lot and began in a lush field of pine.

After running past the scenic pond, we didn't intend to, but we ended up following a windy trail system to where it crossed the road. This was the entrance to Vaughn Hills. I had been a few times before, but never from this entrance.

But nothing beats a trail like this.

We crossed back over the road and re-entered Bowers Springs from the Bartsch Connector, where we crossed over some impressive bridges.




Both of these trails systems are among the best in Worcester County, with a lot to offer, be it elevation gain or flat flowy sections of trail. I would highly recommend.

The Charles W. Ward Reservation is a nice conservation property located in Andover. It is a welcome change of pace from the very congested 495 corridor to get outside. A trail map of the area can be found HERE.

I began my journey on the Red Trail aka Rachel's Trail. This was a very well maintained section that seems to get a lot of traffic.

The trail footing was great for this section, and I eventually headed up the Yellow Trail to Holt Hill/ the Solstice Stones. From here, a bunch of trails broke off, and I opted to follow the Graham Trail to Old Chestnut Street.

Old Chestnut was another flowy, great trail that eventually led to the Margaret's Trail junction. I followed Margaret's Trail and took a detour on Greg's Trail, which was my favorite trail of the day because I didn't see anyone on it and it was windy ..

This was an area I wouldn't think twice about going to if I'm in the area again, but it wasn't a place I would drive much further than a half hour to get to. Nonetheless, if you live nearby, this is a fantastic conservation area to explore!
