As crowded as Acadia is, there are some mountains where you can get *some* semblance of solitude. Norumbega is one of them. We only saw a handful of people during our jaunt through the woods after seeing many at all other trailheads.

We opted to do a loop using the Goat Trail and Hadlock Pond Trail. It's a tough, steep climb up to the summit in only .6 miles. But after the leg burner, you've done pretty much all of the elevation gain.

At the summit, there are decent views looking toward the park proper, but nothing to write home over. This is more of a solitude hike than a destination hike.

We continued along the ridge toward some better views along a flat portion of trail before it started to descend.

Following the Hadlock Pond Trail, you can complete this loop by heading uphill a little more on the way back through a gorgeous forest of pine.

For solitude alone, I would definitely recommend this hike, but don't expect to see the best views of your life.
