Short but sweet, this hike was a great way to stretch our legs before heading on the long drive home. The trail starts right at the Long Trail Inn, across from Pico Mountain. The first piece of the trail is relatively flat but rocky. Due to the recent rain and warm temps, it was also quite wet. Before long it started gaining some elevation and the mud turned to snow. Microspikes proved handy. Overall, it was never that steep.

There are three junctions along the way, but all are well signed. Each time we turned left towards Deer Leap. Eventually, we reached the rocky overlook. It had nice views of Pico and the surrounding mountains. It was windy up top so we didn’t stay long before bouncing back to our car. Several longer loops can be made with the AT and the Long Trail, but we had to hit the road!
